Where We Came From

Rosslyn Community League was founded in 1961 as a not-for-profit organization within the neighbourhood boundaries of 137 Avenue to the North, 132 Avenue to the South, 97 Street to the East, and 113a Street to the West and with Jack Neilson as the first president. Volunteers living in the community of Rosslyn are elected to the Rosslyn Community League Board of Directors to manage the league facilities which include, a hall, an outdoor ice rink and rink building, a playground with a spray park, and the surrounding green space, and to facilitate various programs and events for the community. Over the years there have been various improvements to the facilities and grounds that have enhanced experiences for the community as it has grown and transformed. Along with the league facilities the neighbourhood also has an elementary and junior high school, various retail stores, and shared walking paths. Rosslyn Community League belongs to both Council Area One and Council Area Two, is in the City of Edmonton Ward Anirniq, and acts as a voice for the community on matters of interest to different levels of government and other organizations.

Rosslyn Community League has an extensive history in sports and recreation which includes hockey, baseball, fastball, soccer, and basketball teams and various dance, karate, and Scouts Canada programs. Along with sports tournaments, other programs, and events such as dance recitals, garage sales, potlucks, registration drives, and Family Day and Community League Day events have all been organized for the community by the Board of Directors and volunteers. Rosslyn Community League also produces printed and electronic newsletters that are shared with the community and is active on various social media platforms to keep residents up to date on recent and upcoming events and programs.
